As we do we took a drive across the Firth and turned to the east and then “got lost”. We love to do this as we see things we’d never see otherwise (and you can’t really ever be lost with GPS but it’s fun to try!)

So we stumbled upon the Pictish Road, subtly sign posted and unassuming, but historic and packed with meaning. Read more about it here. The early Scots were called Picts and they fought off the likes of the Norse Vikings and the Romans. Hadrian’s Wall was built to keep them out! (Though this concept is disputable, it’s easy to make this reference, another reason might have been to make it easier for the Romans to collect taxes.)
